Titus Groan (Gormenghast Trilogy) review
Posted : 15 years, 10 months ago on 11 January 2009 06:13 (A review of Titus Groan (Gormenghast Trilogy))This was a deeply descriptive book that took me into a world with fascinating characters who have their own idiosyncrasies. I look forward to reading what happens next to Titus in Gormenghast.

The Book of Lost Things review
Posted : 15 years, 10 months ago on 11 January 2009 06:12 (A review of The Book of Lost Things)This was a great book about love and loss and facing one's fears. I liked the way David's wishes and fears influenced the kingdom as well as the interesting twists on the familiar fairy tales, myths and nursery stories. I especially liked the extensive section after the main story in which the author describes the origins of these stories, recommends some variations by other authors and then provides the original story.

Little Bear (An I Can Read Book) review
Posted : 15 years, 10 months ago on 11 January 2009 06:10 (A review of Little Bear (An I Can Read Book))I read this book for the Childhood Favourites Reading Challenge. When I learned about this challenge, I immediately thought of this book. It was the first book I ever read, so it holds a special place in my heart. I stood in the children's section of our local library today and read it, chuckling to myself as I read the text and enjoyed the pictures, especially of Little Bear and his "space helmet" made from a box and his mother surprising him and his friends with birthday cake!

The Man Who Folded Himself review
Posted : 15 years, 10 months ago on 11 January 2009 06:07 (A review of The Man Who Folded Himself)This book was an interesting take on time travel and identity. While I liked the main character, I wish the book had been longer and more detail given to Dan's adventures in different time periods.

The Shadow Year: A Novel review
Posted : 15 years, 10 months ago on 11 January 2009 06:06 (A review of The Shadow Year: A Novel)This book was an interesting mix of fantasy and mystery. While at time I wished I knew the narrator's name, it didn't take away from my enjoyment of the story. I especially liked the way the brothers tried to make sense of the disappearances and how they went to their sister for help.

Desolation Island (The Aubrey/Maturin Novels, Book 5) review
Posted : 15 years, 10 months ago on 11 January 2009 06:04 (A review of Desolation Island (The Aubrey/Maturin Novels, Book 5))I liked this nautical adventure featuring Captain Jack Aubrey and Dr. Stephen Maturin. There were lots of edge-of-the seat moments as the Leopard had to flee the Dutch ship and later find a place to land for repairs. I look forward to reading the next book in the series, The Fortune of War.
